It’s always disappointing when you take things out of the dishwasher to find remnants of last night’s dinner still clinging on.
Despite the fact you left the dishes in the sink overnight for the food to turn itself into cement because putting them into the dishwasher was too much effort, it still feels like a personal affront to have to do any of the work yourself.
One of the biggest offenders is usually the cutlery, but now Carolina Mccauley – who has racked up millions of views on social media by sharing her household hacks – has a tip to make it a thing of the past.
Carolina posted a video to her popular TikTok account, captioned: ‘This dishwasher hack will leave your silverware sparkling’, and the clip has racked up 140,000 views.
The simple hack involves scrunching up a sheet of tin foil into a small ball and placing into the cutlery basket with your knives, forks and spoons, and turning it on as normal.
The impressive results show silverware shiny enough for Buckingham Palace and viewers couldn’t believe how easy it was to achieve the same results.
People were desperate to know the science behind the trick, as one guessed that “maybe [the foil] is supposed to fly around scrubbing things?”
But it’s not quite as magical as that, as others explained that it comes down to a reaction between the foil and the dishwasher tablet, which boosts the cleaning power. Who knew?
People thanked her for sharing the tip, as one replied to the video to say: “Wow. Will have to try this. I’m so sick of my silverware not looking clean.”
And another joked: “Why does my brain think it’s not okay to put aluminium foil inside appliances because of the microwave.”
